I just tested letting the two fire ant colony do a preliminary in captivation war. Im still developing a container that can easily let people see inside to all the different chamber and can connect to other containers for battles. The war started out with me placing a peice of chicken in the center of the two colonies, both colonies soon reported the food back home and sent their soldiers to pick up the food. but the small enclosed provoked the two colonies two war against each other. since each colony member can distinguish it own member through the antenna and each colony has different smell so they can recognize their own members. The smaller colony was a younger one only around 4 months compared to the bigger one which has a lot of soldiers a 7 month colony. the bigger one soon crushed the smaller one began attacking the mound of the smaller colony, i stopped the fight and separated the two jars in case the smaller colony’s queen will be killed. Red ants rarely take hostages, they usually kill different colonies.
