In Taiwan i have documented at least 18 different breeds of ants, around 5 are composed of only hundreds of members. these are the more solitary ones, and i do not include them in my antwars list. One type of ants particularly interests me, it is the type that build nests on top of trees and on the branches of trees. At first i thought they were made by bees. but upon breaking one of them thousands of ants spill out of the nest. They are around 2mm long and 0.8mm wide. and have stings like scorpions on their backs. Their stings are quite painful. and these are aggressive ants. On december hopefully i can spend more time in the mountains behind my grandpa’s house and study the ant habits more and visit museums on natural science in the country to know more about their breeding process of these ants. I Hope i can catch a queen and smuggle it home to the Philippines hehe. But i would want to have papers if i can. Hopefully by next year, i can try them out with the red ants. And i will upload the pics of the war soon… if anyone has any interest in ants please e-mail me at lafutofu1@gmail.com thanks. Please also e-mail me information on different antbreeds with pictures. thanks and hopefully we can meet in battle in the future with a standard container that can have one colony in the middle and being assaulted by around 4 colonies on each side. or just simple 1 on 1s.
Taiwan stinger ants
November 11, 2008Philippines red ant preliminary war
November 11, 2008I just tested letting the two fire ant colony do a preliminary in captivation war. Im still developing a container that can easily let people see inside to all the different chamber and can connect to other containers for battles. The war started out with me placing a peice of chicken in the center of the two colonies, both colonies soon reported the food back home and sent their soldiers to pick up the food. but the small enclosed provoked the two colonies two war against each other. since each colony member can distinguish it own member through the antenna and each colony has different smell so they can recognize their own members. The smaller colony was a younger one only around 4 months compared to the bigger one which has a lot of soldiers a 7 month colony. the bigger one soon crushed the smaller one began attacking the mound of the smaller colony, i stopped the fight and separated the two jars in case the smaller colony’s queen will be killed. Red ants rarely take hostages, they usually kill different colonies.
The Philippine rainforest soldier ants
October 23, 2008These are ants that i noticed in the philippine rainforest. they are color black and travel in a single line or several lines. these species of ant have a high population rate. they number from thousands to possibly millions (im not sure if they reach millions yet), probable thousands. Their size is 2mm long and 1mm wide. And every 1 minute or so there will be a huge soldier (oversized soldier) carrying a lot of tired or lazy smaller ones on its back. wanna know the size of the huge soldier? its about 1 1/2 cm long and 1 cm wide! some are smaller though, around 1 1/4 cm long and 1cm wide. the huge soldiers are slow, their use is probably to take down larger preys.
Maybe this group of ants are more of gatherers than soldiers. because one time there was a termite line crawling on the ground and it intersected with the rainforest soldier ants. i destroyed the termite line but the rainforest soldier ants just avoided the termite line, they didn’t even attack the termites. but the food that they gathered consist of bugs, worms, grasshoppers. I am still researching on how to capture their queen.
Philippine fire ants
October 21, 2008So far i was able to capture a few queens after they mate and put them into jars the size of a football after burying themselves for about two months the small under nourished first batch will begin to appear. I will then begin to feed them food and spray water into the jars for moisture. I avoid feeding them foods that will spoil easily, such as bread ( bread will have molds and could wipe out the colony). usually i catch mosquitoes or other bugs, a good source of food is also nuts and seeds. the philippine fire ants average size is around 3mm long and 1 mm wide. But stronger and more mature colonies can have soldiers that grow up to 1/2 cm long. when the colony grow bigger you can see the egg chambers and other chambers made by the ants through the glass. be careful though the red ants bites are painful, compared to a needle poking you. the next step is to train them for battles, i usually capture termite soldiers and let them do battle with the ants, the termites are usually no match for the red ants. the red ants though have a weakness, they are weak against raider ants( ants that are around 1mm wide and 1mm long) the raider ants probably have a very stinky smell and the red ants usually cannot even capture one raider ant. probably due to the speed of the smaller ant and the smell.
the battles that take place in the natural environment usually consists of two red ant colonies sending hundreds to maybe a thousand troops to a battle field and fight for a few hours until one side retreats. it is fun to watch.
So to simulate natural battles i will then place the two jars (or small aquariums) together and provide a ramp and put food in the middle and watch the two groups of ants do battle. since both of the ants are living in a small enclosed space. they will eventually want to expand into other areas, so the stronger colony will eventually wipe out the weaker one. So to ensure you have a strong fighting chance is to develop huge soldiers (3-4mm long ones). i am still in the process of researching the diet in producing strong huge soldiers. i would suggest foods high in protein and a mixed diet. hehe =) pleas support me in my goal to promote antwars in the world thanks ( this is original content antwars will soon be a favorable sport) please post different types of breeds and their weaknesses or strengths, their size and other informations. my e-mail is lafutofu1@gmail.com.. please e-mail me if you have any questions or suggestions or if you are interested to own a colony.
